As an Ottawa wedding photographer, I photographed Joëlle and Cory’s wedding at Domaine Mallity Estate and it gave me the chance to see the venue as couples will actually experience it: not as an empty property, but with the ceremony underway, guests moving through the day, and all the meaningful in-between moments happening around it.

Domaine Mallity Estate is a 55-acre wedding and event venue in Hammond, Ontario, about 25 minutes from Ottawa. The property has a quiet, private feel, with mature trees, forest, and open grassy areas surrounding the main wedding spaces.

The venue includes a woodland ceremony area, a wood-lined indoor reception space, and a large outdoor deck with a covered pergola. The indoor space can seat approximately 65–70 guests, or 90–100 when it is extended onto the pergola. From mid-May to mid-October, couples can also use the seasonal tent, which can accommodate up to 120 guests with a dance floor or 150 without one.

Why Couples Love Domaine Mallity Estate

Honestly, one of the biggest draws of Domaine Mallity Estate is that it can feel like a wedding hosted at a beautiful family property, without asking your family to actually host it.

You get the privacy, trees, open space, and relaxed pace of a backyard wedding, but you do not have to figure out where 100 people will park, rent every chair and table separately, turn someone’s kitchen into a catering station, or spend the next morning cleaning everything up. The venue is already set up for weddings, so couples can keep that personal, informal feeling without taking on all the work that usually comes with it.

The entire day can also happen on the same property. Guests can arrive for the ceremony, move to the deck for cocktail hour, and then head into the indoor space or tent for the reception. Meanwhile, the couple can take family photos and portraits around the grounds without leaving the venue or building travel time into the schedule.

It works for different wedding sizes too. A smaller celebration can stay inside and feel cozy rather than lost in an oversized room, while couples with a longer guest list can extend the setup onto the pergola or use the seasonal tent. For Joëlle and Cory, that meant Murphy could be part of the wedding instead of being left out of such an important day.

The Outdoor Ceremony Space

The main outdoor ceremony space at Domaine Mallity Estate is surrounded by trees. Guests follow a gravel path from the parking area to the ceremony, where wooden benches face a wooden gazebo at the front.

The benches are provided by the venue, and couples also have access to the décor inventory. A ceremony rehearsal is included, so you have a chance to walk through the entrance, seating, and ceremony order before the wedding day.

From a photography perspective, the trees make the space feel much more enclosed than an open-field ceremony. The gazebo gives the ceremony a clear focal point, while the wood benches, gravel aisle, and layers of greenery help the full space show clearly in wider photographs. For closer images of the vows, rings, and first kiss, the forest remains visible behind the couple without distracting from them. 

The light here will depend on the time of day and how full the trees are. Spring ceremonies will have lighter greenery, summer will feel fuller and more shaded, and fall will bring warmer colour into the background. On a sunny day, light can also slip through the branches in patches, so ceremony timing is something I would look at carefully when planning the photography timeline.

Another nice detail is that the team does not simply point guests toward the ceremony and leave them to figure it out. They welcome everyone, help with parking, and check that guests are present before things begin. For an outdoor ceremony, I would still ask about using a microphone so grandparents and anyone seated farther back can hear the vows comfortably.

Couples can also add a champagne toast after the ceremony, and dogs are welcome as long as someone is assigned to look after them. That made the venue an especially good fit for Joëlle and Cory, who wanted Murphy to be part of the day.

The venue can host weddings of up to 150 guests in its largest tent layout, but it does not list a separate capacity for this ceremony spot. If you are planning a larger guest list, ask how many people can be seated comfortably on the wooden benches. And if the weather refuses to cooperate, the ceremony can be moved indoors rather than leaving everyone staring nervously at the forecast.

Cocktail Hour on the Patio

Cocktail hour takes place on the patio just outside the main building, only a few steps from the indoor bar. The venue provides up to 10 cocktail tables, giving guests places to set down their drinks and gather in smaller groups without moving straight into their reception seats.

Domaine Mallity Estate has a licensed bar with bartenders, and couples can customize the bar experience for their wedding. There is also an option to open the garage door bay, connecting the patio with the indoor reception room and giving guests more freedom to move between the two spaces.

The patio opens toward the rest of the property, so guests can enjoy the outdoor setting while the couple finishes family photographs and portraits. Couples who want lawn games during cocktail hour can also use the nearby outdoor space rather than trying to fit every activity onto the deck itself.

From a timeline perspective, having a cocktail hour beside the reception space keeps this part of the day simple. Guests do not have to find another location after the ceremony, and when the reception is ready to begin, they are already right outside the room. The cocktail-hour area is also wheelchair accessible through the venue’s front entrance.

Reception Options at Domaine Mallity Estate

Domaine Mallity Estate has two main reception options: the indoor space for smaller weddings and a 40-by-60-foot tent for larger guest lists. Couples can also open the garage door bay and extend the indoor reception onto the covered pergola, which gives them a third layout somewhere between the two.

Inside the Main Reception Space

The indoor reception space seats up to 70 guests, making it best suited to smaller weddings. The room has exposed wood walls and beams, a white ceiling, black window trim, and large windows that bring in natural light earlier in the day.

Although the room has plenty of wood, it does not feel like a dark barn or a basic community hall. The white ceiling and black details give it a cleaner, more updated look, while the wood keeps it warm. Once the tables are set and the candles and flowers are added, it feels more like dinner inside a large country home than a formal hotel ballroom.

That smaller scale can be a real advantage for an intimate wedding. Speeches do not feel as though they are happening from the other side of a huge room, and a shorter guest list will not disappear inside a space designed for 200 people.

Dinner, Bar and Dancing

The indoor room is used for dinner, speeches, and dancing. After dinner, some of the reception tables can be moved to open more floor space for the party. The venue can then accommodate up to 130 people in the main building for the evening, although the seated dinner capacity remains 70.

Domaine Mallity Estate provides access to its available décor inventory, along with linens, napkins, plates, and cutlery. That gives couples many of the basic reception pieces without requiring separate rentals for every place setting. The exact items and colours available may change, so I would still look through the current inventory before planning the tables around a specific piece.

The licensed bar is inside the main building and comes with bartenders. Since the patio is directly outside, guests can easily move between the bar, reception room, and outdoor space as the evening continues.

Last call is at 12:45 a.m., and everyone must be out by 2:00 a.m. If the weather allows, couples can also have a bonfire outside later in the evening.

Extending the Reception Onto the Pergola

Opening the black garage door bay connects the indoor room with the covered deck and pergola. With both areas in use, Domaine Mallity Estate can seat approximately 90–100 guests.

This setup changes the feel of the reception quite a bit. Instead of keeping everyone inside one room, the dinner can spread onto the covered outdoor area while the bar and main reception space remain close by. Guests can move between the two without feeling as though part of the wedding is happening in a separate location.

It is a nice option for couples whose guest list has outgrown the 70-person indoor space but who do not necessarily want the entire reception under the larger tent. Because the final capacity depends on table sizes, placement, and how much room is needed for service, couples should have the venue approve the floor plan before confirming their guest count.

The Seasonal Reception Tent

For larger weddings, the venue has a 40-by-60-foot tent available from approximately mid-May to mid-October. The tent can be used for the ceremony, reception, or both, and it allows couples to keep the outdoor feel of the property while still having a covered space for dinner.

Capacity depends on how the tent is arranged. It can seat up to 120 guests with a dance floor or up to 150 guests without one. This is an important difference for couples who want dinner and dancing to happen in the tent, since 150 is not the capacity for every layout.

After dinner, tables can be moved to make more room for dancing and additional evening guests. At that point, the tent can accommodate up to 200 people for the evening, but that number should not be confused with its seated dinner capacity.

Visually, the tent gives the reception a lighter and more open feeling than the wood-lined indoor room. Guests are still surrounded by the trees and grounds, and the white tent gives couples a fairly simple background for their own table settings, flowers, and colours. It works well for couples who like Domaine Mallity Estate because of its outdoor setting but need more room than the main building can provide.

The indoor room feels warmer and more intimate, the pergola setup gives you a mix of indoor and outdoor space, and the tent works for the largest guest counts. The right choice really comes down to the number of people attending, whether you want a dance floor, and how much of the reception you want to keep outdoors.

Getting Ready at Domaine Mallity Estate

Domaine Mallity Estate includes access to two getting-ready areas from 9:00 a.m. The main space is upstairs in the venue building, while the second is inside the sugar shack. Having two spaces is useful for couples who want to get ready separately before the ceremony without booking another location.

The main getting-ready room has makeup stations, mirrors, and furniture chosen with wedding mornings in mind. There is enough space for hair and makeup products to stay at the stations instead of taking over the rest of the room, while the mirrors and furniture give me several options for photographs as everyone gets ready.

A steamer is available for dresses, suits, and veils, which is one of those small details that can save a lot of stress in the morning. Couples can also connect to the Bluetooth speakers and play their own music while everyone is getting ready.

From a photography perspective, I can use the room for hair and makeup, getting dressed, and the quieter moments with parents or close friends before the ceremony. It also gives me a proper place to photograph the dress, bouquet, rings, shoes, invitations, and other details without taking everything to another part of the venue.

The main room is on the second floor and can only be reached by stairs. The sugar shack getting-ready space is the accessible option, so couples should decide who will use each room based on the needs of the people getting ready with them.

The standard 9:00 a.m. access time should also be considered when planning hair, makeup, and photography. If preparations need to begin earlier, access can be added for $499 plus HST per hour, with 7:00 a.m. being the earliest available time.

Getting ready on-site keeps the morning simpler because nobody has to pack up and travel to the venue after hair and makeup. Once everyone is dressed, the first look, portraits, and ceremony can all happen on the same property.

Joëlle and Cory’s Domaine Mallity Estate Wedding

I photographed Joëlle and Cory’s wedding at Domaine Mallity Estate on May 17, 2026. They wanted the day to feel relaxed and a little like a backyard wedding, without a large wedding party or too many formal parts added simply because that is how weddings are usually done.

Their golden retriever–Lab mix, Murphy, was an important part of the celebration. Domaine Mallity Estate’s pet-friendly policy and open grounds made it possible to include him without needing to take the couple somewhere else for those photographs.

Joëlle was very organized throughout the planning process, and that showed in the timeline. She and Cory planned a first look before the ceremony, which gave them time together before their guests arrived and allowed us to take some portraits earlier in the day.

Their ceremony took place later in the afternoon, from 5:00 to 5:30 p.m. Family photographs followed during cocktail hour, so everyone needed for them was already nearby. Since the ceremony, cocktail hour, and reception were all on the same property, we did not lose time driving between locations or waiting for family members to arrive somewhere else.

We also went back outside for sunset portraits. Keeping that part short gave Joëlle and Cory a different set of photographs without taking them away from the reception for too long.

With no wedding party and a simple timeline, the day felt relaxed from beginning to end, and Murphy still got to be part of it all.

Best Wedding Photo Locations at Domaine Mallity Estate

A good wedding gallery should not look like we took every portrait in the same spot. Domaine Mallity Estate gives us several different backgrounds across one property, which means we can add variety without spending a large part of the day travelling or pulling the couple away from their guests.

The forest ceremony area is an obvious place to begin. The wooden gazebo, ceremony platform, and trees all stay visible in wider photographs, while the greenery behind the couple works well for closer portraits after the guests have moved to cocktail hour. These photographs still look connected to the ceremony, but we can take them without everyone watching from the benches.

The open grassy areas give us more room for walking photographs and wider portraits that show more of the property. I would usually save some of these for later in the day, when the light is lower and we are not standing in the strongest afternoon sun. They also create a nice change from the darker greens and closer tree cover around the ceremony space.

One of the more unusual photo locations is the sugar shack at the back of the property. It has a much more rustic look than the main building, so it adds something different to the gallery without requiring another stop. I would not photograph an entire portrait session there, but it works well for a few images when the couple wants more variety.

The main building gives us another look again. Its dark exterior, large windows, wood deck, and surrounding greenery feel cleaner and more structured than the forest or open grass. Because the patio is already being used for cocktail hour, it is also easy to include guests enjoying that part of the day rather than photographing only empty scenery.

Inside, the upstairs getting-ready lounge is useful for more than hair and makeup photographs. The neutral furniture, decorative mirror, wood interior, and natural light give me places to photograph the dress, bouquet, rings, shoes, and other smaller details before the ceremony begins. Starting there also helps the gallery move naturally from the quiet morning preparations into the busier parts of the day.

Before guests enter the reception, I like to photograph the full setup as well as the smaller details couples spent months choosing. That might include the complete room or tent, table settings, flowers, signage, menus, and the head table. Once the reception begins, the same space becomes the background for speeches, dinner, first dances, and all the candid photographs that happen once everyone relaxes.

If the bonfire is running and there is enough time in the schedule, it can also add a few evening photographs that look completely different from everything taken during the day. I would treat that as a bonus rather than build the entire timeline around it, since the bonfire depends on the weather.

The useful thing about all of these locations is that they are close enough to use in short parts of the day. We do not need to disappear for an hour to create variety. A few portraits after the ceremony, another short set later in the evening, and photographs taken naturally as we move between spaces are usually enough to show much more of Domaine Mallity Estate in the final gallery.

Lighting and Photography Considerations

The outdoor ceremony space is surrounded by trees, but that does not mean the light will stay even all day. On a sunny afternoon, light can come through the branches in patches, leaving one side of the gazebo brighter than the other. That is why I look at both the ceremony time and the direction the couple will be facing rather than assuming any wooded space will automatically have soft shade.

The forest is still very useful for portraits, especially when the open grass is getting stronger sun. I can place the couple in a shaded area where the light is softer and more even, then use the trees behind them to keep the background simple. If the day is cloudy, I have more freedom to work in the open areas earlier because I am not trying to avoid harsh light or deep shadows on faces.

The upstairs lounge is helpful at the beginning of the day because it gives me natural light for hair and makeup, getting dressed, and photographs of the smaller details. I can keep the dress, bouquet, rings, shoes, and invitations in the same room instead of carrying everything around the venue looking for better light.

Once the reception moves inside, the photographs naturally become warmer because of the wood walls and evening lighting. I like to keep some of that warmth because it shows what the room actually felt like, but as daylight disappears, I will use flash when needed for speeches, first dances, and candid photos. That keeps faces clear without making the room look completely different from how guests saw it.

I also like to leave a short opening in the timeline for sunset photos. We do not need another full portrait session. Even 10 or 15 minutes outside can give the couple a set of photographs with softer, later-day light that looks different from anything taken after the ceremony. Because the portrait areas are close to the reception, the couple can step out briefly and return without missing a large part of dinner or the party.

The exact plan will always depend on the weather. On a bright day, I may use more of the shaded forest earlier and save the open grounds for later. With cloud cover, those open areas may work well much sooner. Rather than deciding months ahead that every portrait must happen in one exact spot, I would choose the locations based on the light we actually have that day.

Timeline Tips for a Domaine Mallity Estate Wedding

Because getting ready, the ceremony, cocktail hour, and reception can all happen at Domaine Mallity Estate, couples do not need to lose part of the day travelling between locations. I would still leave a little extra time in the morning, though. Hair and makeup running 15 minutes late can quickly affect the first look, portraits, and ceremony start time.

If you want a first look, I would schedule it before guests begin arriving. That gives you more privacy and allows us to complete some of the couple portraits before the ceremony. Private vows can also happen immediately after the first look, while the two of you are already together and have a few quiet minutes away from everyone else.

Joëlle and Cory planned their ceremony for 5:00 to 5:30 p.m., followed by a one-hour cocktail hour. Keeping the ceremony fairly short meant cocktail hour could finish around 6:30 instead of pushing dinner later into the evening. They also planned to step outside again for sunset photos.

Their family formals were planned for the beginning of cocktail hour. For that to work well, I always ask for a family-photo list in advance, with each group written clearly and one person assigned to help gather everyone. We can move through the list much faster when relatives know where to be instead of spending ten minutes looking for someone who has already gone to the bar.

I would not use the entire cocktail hour for photographs. A first look gives us time for some couple portraits earlier, family photos can happen right after the ceremony, and any remaining portraits can be kept short. That way, the couple still has time to join cocktail hour, speak to guests, or simply take a break before the reception begins.

If your dog will be part of the wedding, plan those photographs earlier rather than assuming they can happen at any point. Dogs can become tired, distracted, or overstimulated once more guests arrive. I would choose a specific time for the photos, bring treats and water, and have the designated handler ready to take the dog afterward. For Joëlle and Cory, that meant making room for Murphy in the plan rather than trying to squeeze him into whatever time happened to be left.

I would also leave a small weather buffer between the main parts of the day. If a quick shower changes the portrait location or the ceremony needs to move indoors, even 10 or 15 minutes of extra room can keep the rest of the timeline from falling behind.

What Happens If It Rains at Domaine Mallity Estate?

Domaine Mallity Estate does have backup options for rain, but the right one will depend on the season and the number of guests attending. A plan that works for a 60-person indoor wedding may not work the same way for a 140-person tented reception.

The ceremony can be moved into the main building, which has heating and air conditioning. The indoor space seats up to 70 guests, or approximately 90–100 when it is connected to the covered pergola. Couples with a larger guest list should confirm exactly how an indoor ceremony would be arranged and whether everyone could be seated comfortably.

From approximately mid-May to mid-October, the 40-by-60-foot tent gives couples another covered option for the ceremony, reception, or both. If the tent is already set for dinner, ask how moving the ceremony there would change the table layout and whether the space would need to be reset between the two parts of the day.

The covered deck and pergola may also be useful while it is raining, but couples should ask which areas are included in their package and how they would be used during a weather change. I would also confirm whether the venue team can move the wooden ceremony benches or other outdoor furniture inside, since that may depend on the chosen setup.

From a photography perspective, rain does not necessarily mean every portrait has to happen indoors. If there is a short break, we can step outside for a few photos near the main building or under the trees without trying to complete the entire portrait list at once. I would still keep enough room in the timeline to change locations and have umbrellas available rather than waiting until the wedding day to decide what to do.

Before the wedding, ask the venue when the final weather decision needs to be made, who makes that call, and what the backup space will look like with your actual guest count. Domaine Mallity Estate has real indoor and covered alternatives, but it is still important to know which one belongs to your package and how it affects the reception setup.

Guest Experience and Practical Details

For guests, one of the easiest things about Domaine Mallity Estate is that they only need to arrive and park once. The ceremony, cocktail hour, and reception all happen on the same property, so nobody has to get back into their car or follow directions to a second location halfway through the wedding.

There is free parking on-site, and the venue team helps guests park when they arrive. The main ceremony space can be reached from the parking area by a gravel path. Inside the main building, there is an accessible washroom on the main floor, along with additional washrooms in the basement.

The indoor space has both heating and air conditioning, which is important during an Ontario wedding season that can give you a hot afternoon and a much cooler evening on the same day. Guests can move between the indoor reception room, bar, patio, and pergola without being limited to one space for the entire reception.

Domaine Mallity Estate has a full-service licensed bar with bilingual bartenders. The bar accepts debit, credit, tap, and cash, so guests do not need to remember to bring cash just to order a drink.

For later in the evening, the property has a designated smoking area and offers a bonfire when the weather allows. Couples can also ask about adding fireworks, although the availability, timing, and rules should be confirmed directly with the venue for the wedding date.

The one detail I would not leave until the last minute is transportation home. Domaine Mallity Estate is in Hammond rather than central Ottawa, so guests should not assume that a rideshare driver will be nearby when the reception ends. A shuttle, designated drivers, or pre-booked transportation will make the end of the night much easier, especially for anyone using the bar.

Staying at Mallity Manor

Mallity Manor is a restored farmhouse located on the property and available as an optional addition to the wedding package. It has three bedrooms, two pull-out couches, a full kitchen, and its own parking area separate from the main venue.

It is not meant to accommodate the entire guest list, but it can work well for the couple, immediate family, or a small group of close friends. The full kitchen also gives everyone somewhere to have breakfast, make coffee, and spend a little more time together the following morning.

The biggest advantage is not having to arrange a late-night drive immediately after the reception. Once the wedding ends, the people staying at the Manor are already where they need to be. It can make the end of the night feel less rushed and the next morning easier too, especially if the couple has décor, clothing, or personal items to gather before leaving.

Couples should confirm the Manor’s maximum occupancy, check-in and checkout times, availability, and current price directly with Domaine Mallity Estate before adding it to their plans.

How Much Does a Wedding at Domaine Mallity Estate Cost?

Domaine Mallity Estate currently lists wedding pricing for dates from 2026 through 2028, with the rate changing depending on the day of the week.
