Ilias and Vinko’s wedding at the Canadian Museum of Nature was the perfect reflection of who they are together: thoughtful, playful, and deeply personal.
From portraits inside the butterfly exhibit to a ceremony surrounded by fossils and meaningful traditions, every part of the day felt intentionally chosen. Between handcrafted details, chosen family, and their adorable dog Darwin in a bow tie, this wedding was filled with personality from beginning to end.

To keep the surprise alive, Ilias and Vinko partially got ready separately before finishing the final touches of their outfits at the museum itself.
Their first look took place in the gardens outside the Canadian Museum of Nature with the museum architecture and greenery surrounding them. The second they saw each other, all the nerves shifted into excitement.
One of the most meaningful details from the day were the boutonnières, which featured handmade golden flowers created by Vinko himself.
And of course, Darwin joined in for portraits too.
Wearing his own tiny bow tie, Darwin happily wandered through the gardens with them while we captured some of the sweetest moments of the day before the ceremony began.

If you’re dreaming of your own Canadian Museum of Nature wedding, this venue truly offers one of the most unique wedding experiences in Ottawa. Between the butterfly exhibit, fossil gallery, stunning architecture, and variety of portrait locations throughout the museum, it’s such an incredible space for couples wanting a wedding that feels both personal and unforgettable.
As an Ottawa wedding photographer, I love documenting weddings that feel intentional, personality-driven, and deeply reflective of the couple themselves. Whether you’re planning a museum wedding, an intimate celebration, or something entirely unconventional, all love stories are welcomed and celebrated here. You can learn more about working together or contact us directly. We’d love to hear all about what you’re planning.

One of the most unique parts of this Canadian Museum of Nature wedding was getting access to the museum galleries before guests arrived.
After family and wedding party photos outside, we moved into the butterfly exhibit for portraits together. Surrounded by lush greenery and butterflies drifting through the space, the entire gallery felt almost dreamlike.
The location also held personal meaning for the couple, reminding them of a trip they had taken together to Argentina.
Between the tropical atmosphere and the quiet moments together before the ceremony, these portraits ended up being some of my favourites from the entire day.

Their ceremony took place inside the Queen’s Lantern surrounded by close friends and family.
The ceremony itself included a ring warming ritual, personal vows, handfasting, and meaningful involvement from their guests and chosen family throughout the evening.
One of my favourite moments was watching their rings move throughout the room during the ring warming ceremony while guests listened to their love story being shared.
Rather than entering separately, Ilias and Vinko also chose to walk into the ceremony together, which felt like such a beautiful reflection of their relationship and partnership.

Following the ceremony, guests made their way into the Fossil Gallery for cocktail hour beneath the museum’s dinosaur exhibits.
The entire setting felt so perfectly suited to them and their personalities.
As guests explored the galleries and spent time together, we stepped outside for golden hour portraits in the gardens surrounding the museum. The cloudy skies throughout the day created the softest light and gave everything such a romantic glow.
These quieter moments together gave them a chance to slow down and soak everything in before heading into the reception.

The reception took place inside the Rotunda at the Canadian Museum of Nature and carried the same thoughtful energy as the rest of the day.
One of the most memorable details was the inclusion of pieces from Ilias and Vinko’s personal bug collection displayed throughout the reception space. It was creative, unexpected, and such a perfect reflection of who they are together.
The evening was filled with heartfelt speeches, laughter, dancing, and so much excitement from the people surrounding them.
From butterflies and fossils to handcrafted details and emotional ceremony moments, every part of their Canadian Museum of Nature wedding felt entirely and unapologetically them.
