The National Gallery of Canada is one of the best photo locations in Ottawa if you want something modern, clean, and a little editorial. The glass architecture, stone textures, nearby views, and surrounding downtown area give you a lot of variety without needing to travel far.

It works beautifully for engagement photos, wedding portraits, branding photos, and even more formal family sessions. It’s also a great option if you want photos that feel very “Ottawa” without relying only on Parliament views.

National Arts Centre

The National Arts Centre is one of my favourite downtown Ottawa photo locations for couples who want a clean, modern city feel. Between the interior spaces, rooftop views, architecture, and nearby downtown backdrops, it works especially well for engagement photos and wedding portraits.

It’s also a great option on wedding days because you can get a lot of variety in a relatively small area, which is helpful when timelines are tight. The rooftop is beautiful when the weather cooperates, but the NAC is also one of my favourite indoor photo locations in Ottawa, especially for winter engagement sessions or rainy-day portraits.

For engagement sessions, I love the NAC because it feels modern and polished while still being very Ottawa. Sherry and Chris’s NAC engagement session is a great example of how the indoor spaces can feel romantic, relaxed, and connected to the city without needing perfect weather.

This location is especially beautiful for engagement photos and wedding portraits. It’s also a great option for couples getting married downtown who want portraits without travelling too far from their ceremony or reception.

I love this area for engagement sessions because it gives you a really classic Ottawa feel without needing to stay in one tiny spot. You can move between the National Gallery, Major’s Hill Park, the Chateau Laurier area, and nearby downtown views for a gallery that feels romantic, elegant, and full of variety. The Ornamental Gardens at the Central Experimental Farm are a favourite for colourful, romantic photos. It works beautifully for family sessions, maternity photos, engagement photos, and portraits where you want a bright, colourful garden feel.

This is probably my favourite place in Ottawa for engagement sessions. It has so much variety in a small area, which means we can get a full gallery that feels diverse without spending the whole session walking from spot to spot. Between the flowers, greenery, stone paths, open shade, romantic garden corners, and seasonal colour, it works especially well for couples who want their photos to feel colourful, relaxed, and a little romantic.

I’ve photographed engagement sessions here before, and Madison and Nicholas’ engagement session is a really sweet example of how the gardens and greenhouse area can feel romantic, colourful, and relaxed all at once.

I also love that the Ornamental Gardens feel polished without feeling too formal. There’s something beautiful for couples to interact with, but it still feels natural and easy.
